independence in daily activities

At About You OT, we help children develop the skills and confidence to take part in everyday tasks—like dressing, eating, toileting, and getting ready for school—in ways that feel achievable and empowering.

What are Daily Activities?

Daily activities are the everyday routines that help children feel independent and included—things like brushing teeth, packing a bag, using the toilet, or managing mealtimes. These tasks can be challenging for a range of reasons, including motor skills, sensory preferences, or executive functioning differences.

How We Help

We work with children and families to:

  • Build step-by-step skills for self-care tasks

  • Adapt routines to meet a child’s developmental stage and sensory needs

  • Support body awareness, sequencing, and motor planning

  • Make daily routines less stressful and more successful

  • Foster confidence, autonomy, and pride

Our sessions are play-based, practical, and individualised, with a strong focus on making everyday life easier for both the child and their caregivers.

When Support Might Help

  • Challenges with dressing, toileting or eating

  • Avoidance or frustration around daily routines

  • Needing frequent adult help with age-appropriate tasks

  • Difficulty learning multi-step tasks or remembering sequences

Together, we build skills, adjust environments, and create routines that support independence—at home, school, and beyond.
